Improve Calf Health with Clean Birthing Rooms

Keep Calving Rooms Safe

It is crucial to keep birthing and veterinary rooms clean and free from harmful pathogens that can threaten your livestock. Proper health and reproduction is a key component of herd profitability. If birthing areas are not properly cleaned, infection and disease can spread,  leading to increased veterinary costs and higher mortality rates within the herd.

The National Animal Health Monitoring System (NAHMS) estimates pre-weaning mortality of U.S. dairy calves to be roughly 11%.

A University of Wisconsin-Madison study published in Calf Diseases and Prevention found that the leading cause of losing pre-weaned and post-weaned dairy calves is diarrhea. Diarrhea accounts for 52.2% of mortality and is usually caused by E. coli, Salmonella and Clostridium perfringens.

Our Continuous Disinfection Light series can kill these pathogens by emitting a germicidal wavelength that kills single-cell organisms from surfaces and air. This lighting can be used constantly throughout the day and is safe for humans and animals to be under for any amount of time.

Protect your investment.

When you’re preparing for a busy calving season, a significant amount of time is dedicated to sanitizing surfaces, changing bedding and ensuring that the area is dry and well-ventilated. Immediately after preparation, harmful bacteria and mold are able to be re-introduced and multiply, even if that space isn’t being occupied. Ensure your facility is clean with the additional layer of protection provided with the flip of a light switch.
